Hilary, a junior at Ohio State University, served for five weeks with Orphan Helpers in the summer of 2007. She worked in CIPI, an orphanage for young girls in San Salvador. She made crafts with the girls, played games and sports, and built eternal relationships. She discipled the girls, loved them, and listened to them as they shared their hearts with her. Hilary also helped out with the YPO Orphan Olympics week.
Three other young women joined Hilary her last week in El Salvador. They painted the walls of the dormitories in CIPI, as well as helped out with English classes in CISNA, an orphanage for young boys.
“I was able to see God change hearts and spirits, and I feel so blessed that God would choose me to be a part of something so outstanding. I saw pregnant teenagers broken before the Lord. I saw spiritual growth in girls that had lost all hope in their lives. I saw former murderers changed by God. And I praise the One who did it all. He did it all to bring Himself glory and honor, by using us in “the most excellent way”, as Paul said, and revealing His love and grace. With the help of Orphan Helpers, my eyes were opened to a world in need of the love of Christ, and, because the work of the Lord is never finished, I hope that one day He’ll take me back to the place that not only changed the lives of some of the lost and hopeless, but my life as well.”
